![]() ![]() It's a layering of immersion that separates the leader from the rest of the pack where the visceral driving-experience is concerned. It's such details that can make just turning laps one of pure joy and excitement for some of us. Of course, such things are best appreciated with a motion system but, the rarity of such an experience carries a lot of weight, especially in regard to the visceral one. For example: The drive-train physics are extraordinary imo the way the clutch engages, the engine load is affected by bumps, the way the component flex (shudder) can be felt when shifting is several levels beyond what RaceRoom offers, all while other titles may be completely devoid of such features. There are few truly deep-Simulations available today S397, Reiza and iRacing continue to move deeper into true simulation territory and while they all offer something extra when it comes to a feeling of connection to the car, iRacing stands out in some areas by quite a lot. There are significant updates coming that should increase interest and build momentum for S397 and rF2 and, that may also benefit Reiza's next title as well. The new content shows the evolution and progress being made, both in graphics and audio, as well as handling and FFB. There is a lot to be improved in rF2 but, I'm just thrilled to see progress being made. Going forward, the best tracks in rF2 are likely to be native rF2 LS tracks if Sebring is anything to go by, and even the best track mods may fall well short of the new standard set by S397. Whether or not those mods are updated to reflect the coming updates are anyone's guess but, so long as the title continues to evolve, chances of that happening are better for it. There are some decent track-mods for rF2 but, they always seem rather dull due to the issues mentioned previously. rF2 has a certain visceral quality about it for me that makes it easy to want to keep turning laps and racing. I feel rF2's real strength is in it's driving and racing dynamics, perhaps only exceeded by iRacing although, I don't feel iRacing FFB can match rF2's. I also find Silverstone to be a bit of a snooze-fest, but again - I can see the appeal of it - but for some reason I don't really like the flow.Click to expand.rF2's strength has never been graphics or audio but, both are improving and the new lighting and shader's should help considerably once they are implemented. Cadwell - I can see the appeal, but those really tight sections are a pain, unless you're driving a really nimble single seater. The only track I've been on in real life is Manfeild Park on a 250 2 stroke motorcycle and it was fun, but the brake bumps into corners were eye opening (caused by racing trucks). Cascavel, Curitiba, Goiania and Taruma are all fun. In general - I enjoy the Brazilian tracks in AMS 2 (that I've driven so far). I don't really like modern Monaco either - unless I was to use something really small like a 250cc Super Kart. I also think Laguna Seca's a bit overrated - but I can still make these fun by driving small, nimble single seaters (although there's a couple of sections in Macau that are pretty much single file). The main ones I can think of are Macau & possibly Long Beach. Tracks I dislike - really tight tracks, with too many sharp corners - where you're alternating all the time between hard acceleration, then slowing right down again. Willow Springs, Road Atlanta, Road America and Watkins Glen are four American tracks I enjoy. I also find Silverstone to be a bit of a snooze-fest, but again - I can see the appeal of it - but for some reason I don't really like the flow.įavourites off the top of my head are the Nurburgring 24H layout, Bathurst, Historic versions of Imola, Interlagos, Kyalami & Oulton Park, Pukekohe, Manfeild Park, Hampton Downs, Teretonga & Highlands (last 5 are NZL tracks) and the Historic version of Interlagos. Not saying it's a great track (and it is darn ugly), but it actually is a rather challenging track to get right and I always have good racing there in F1, Raceroom, and ACC.Ĭlick to expand. You're definitely not alone. I don't understand its popularity, however. I'd rather have proper road course or a proper oval. Don't really enjoy the Daytona or Indianapolis road courses in R3E. It's just stunning.ģ) Sonoma-Have raced all kinds of cars there in Raceroom and have a blast every time.ġ) Silverstone-for some reason I'm just not that fast here in any sim.Ģ) Brands Hatch-I do fine at this track just don't find it to be that fun.ģ) Rovals. It's also a track where spending time on setup is rewarding.Ģ) Kyalami-do a 24 hour accelaerated clock race there. No super-long boring straightaways but at the same time it's not impossibly difficult to keep the car on the track. 1) Curvelo-love racing GT3/4 and the stock cars there in AMS2. ![]()
